Carmel Firefighters Serve Up Pancake Breakfast, Candy Cane Run
CARMEL, N.Y. -- A pancake breakfast, then a candy cane run the following weekend, are some of the community events in Carmel that center on the holidays.
The breakfast, from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 3, is planned at the Carmel Fire Department, 94 Gleneida Ave., Carmel.
The meal is $7 for adults; $5 for kids.
The department's candy cane giveaway, when members on a firetruck will hand out the candies to kids, is Saturday, Dec. 10.
Participants should look out for the trucks, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Anne Bittner Of Orangeburg
ORANGEBURG, N.Y. -- Anne Bittner, of Orangeburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 23.
She was born in New York City to Thomas and Linda Kilgannon from County Sligo, Ireland, and was raised in the Bronx.
Following her graduation from St. Luke’s Parish School, she attended Walton High School.
In 1963, she started working for Old London Foods in the Bronx.
After 47 years, she retired from her position as an accounting manager with Old London in 2010.

Scarsdale Village Official, Educator, Honored With Thomas Sobol Award
SCARSDALE, N.Y. — A local public servant and school educator will receive a special recognition for their service in Scarsdale.
Christopher O’Brien, director of Information Services for the Village of Scarsdale, and Christopher Renino, assistant principal at Scarsdale High School, will receive the first Thomas Sobol Award for Service to the Community, according to an announcement by Kathy Steves, president of the Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Service .
The award will be given Dec. 8 at a luncheon in Scarsdale.
