Carmel Firefighters Serve Up Pancake Breakfast, Candy Cane Run CARMEL, N.Y. -- A pancake breakfast, then a candy cane run the following weekend, are some of the community events in Carmel that center on the holidays. The breakfast, from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 3, is planned at the Carmel Fire Department, 94 Gleneida Ave., Carmel. The meal is $7 for adults; $5 for kids. The department's candy cane giveaway, when members on a firetruck will hand out the candies to kids, is Saturday, Dec. 10. Participants should look out for the trucks, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Free mental health training is being offered Monday, Dec. 5 and Tuesday, Dec. 6 by the Garfield Stigma Free Committee at the Garfield YMCA. Mental health first aid allows for early detection and intervention by teaching participants about the signs and symptoms of specific illnesses, like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and addictions. Santa Swims With Sharks At Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium NORWALK, Conn. -- A holiday highlight at the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is when Santa Claus in scuba gear swims with sharks. The swim will be twice each day Saturday and Sunday and then most Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays in December.
