Friends Of The Rockefeller Preserve Gala Celebrates 20 Years POCANTICO HILLS, N.Y. -- Bette Midler is an honorary chairperson for the Saturday, Dec. 10, gala to celebrate 20 years of fundraising by the Friends of the Preserve gala for Rockefeller State Park Preserve. Comedian Robert Klein will be master of ceremonies. The gala will be held in the Playhouse, a Normandy-English style structure designed by Duncan Candler in 1927. Cigarette Apparently Caused Apartment Fire In Stamford STAMFORD, Conn. -- A 64-year-old Stamford man is in the hospital for smoke inhalation he suffered in a fire in his Atlantic Street apartment, reportedly due to a lit cigarette, according to the Stamford Advocate.The property's landlord found the victim on the second floor of a two-family house Monday afternoon, the Stamford Advocate reported. Firefighters arrived to find a fire in a walk-up attic, where there are four separate rooms, Fire Marshal Charles Spaulding told the Stamford Advocate. Briarcliff Kindergartners Show Gratitude At Thanksgiving Feast BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Kindergarteners dressed like Pilgrims and Native Americans for a Thanksgiving feast Nov. 22 at Todd Elementary School. The costumes worn were to signify the meeting and friendship between the two groups at the first Thanksgiving.
