Police Announce Road Closures For Yorktown Tree Lighting Ceremony
YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The festive Holiday Light Parade is about to roll into Yorktown. Saturday's parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Front Street, near the Yorktown Highway Department. The parade will travel west on Underhill Avenue to the intersection with Commerce Street, then continue on Commerce to Veterans Road, concluding at the Yorktown Community Cultural Center. Students, Alum, Administrators, Teachers Attend Bridge Academy Thanksgiving
PELHAM, N.Y. -- The Bridge Academy students, teachers and administrators celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday on Nov. 22. This 10th annual luncheon drew graduates of the alternative high school. Some talked about their colleges and majors, while others read text messages from peers unable to attend. The turkey meal was prepared by teachers and students. Three More Days To Shop At Hermitage Boutique In Ho-Ho-Kus
HO-HO-KUS, N.J. -- Three more days remain for holiday shopping at the Classic Creations Boutique inside The Hermitage Museum. The boutique features rooms full of merchandise from more than 100 artisans from around the world. A highlight for visitors is stepping inside this 19th century Ho-Ho-Kus National Historic Landmark. YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- An artist who makes art out of trash visited with students recently at Fox Meadow Middle/High School. Aurora Robson talked about her art created from trash or what she refers to as “displaced abundance.” She will return later this year to lead the students in making their own art from discarded materials. Former Trumbull Councilman Sentenced To Four Years For Vehicular Homicide
TRUMBULL, Conn. -- A former Trumbull councilman responsible for an alcohol-related crash that killed one person and seriously injured another in Westfield, N.J., in 2011 was sentenced on Nov. 18 to four years in state prison. Robert McGowan, 30, of Trumbull, must serve at least 85 percent of that term before becoming eligible for parole under the terms set Friday by state Superior Court Judge Scott J. Arlington School Board Approves Tax Break For Veterans
LAGRANGEVILLE, N.Y. -- The Arlington school board approved a tax break for veterans in the district next year, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. The vote Tuesday was 5-3, passing the alternative veterans tax exemption, said the Poughkeepsie Journal. A public hearing was held before the vote, the Poughkeepsie Journal said. Veterans had been appealing to the school board to grant the exemption after a New York law was amended in 2013 to allow the exemptions, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal report. FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Rain Wednesday afternoon could be heavy at times, bringing a much-needed soaking to Fairfield County, according to the National Weather Service. The region is in a drought, about 2 feet short on precipitation in the past year. The conditions led Bridgeport-based Aquarioin Water Co. to ask customers on Tuesday to cut indoor water use by 20 percent. FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A Fairfield animal rescue group has taken in four kittens who were discovered in a storm drain Tuesday morning on the Quinnipiac University campus in Hamden.
