New Milford Senior Wins National Courtroom Artist Student Competition NEW MILFORD, N.J. -- A sketch by Sarah Almeda, a graduating senior at New Milford High School earned top honors the national Courtroom Artist Student Competition recently in Boise Idaho. Almeda practiced by sketching the team from Bergen Catholic, who placed 13th overall in the mock trail competition.  The senior said she was "able to learn so much about the justice system and how it can affect an individual's life." Almeda will attend The College of New Jersey in the fall.

Woman With Zika Gives Birth To Baby With Microcephaly In Hackensack HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Officials at Hackensack University Medical Center confirmed Wednesday that a baby was born at the hospital on Tuesday with microcephaly as a result of the mother contracting the Zika virus internationally. "The mother, who is visiting the United States, and her baby are receiving exceptional care during this difficult time," the hospital said in a news release. Microcephaly is a birth defect in which the baby's head is smaller than usual. The Record reported that the mother is a 31-year-old Honduran who was bitten by a mosquito there after she became pregnant.…

Maywood Youth Hone Baseball Skills At Local Clinic MAYWOOD, N.J. -- Maywood 7 and 8-year-olds participated in a free baseball clinic on Friday, May 27 at Cleveland Field. The clinic featured three stations: pitching, hitting, and fielding/running that kids rotated through during the event.  Local coaches ran the clinic with the help of some more seasoned 12-14-year-old ball players.
