Wappingers Voters Decide To Keep Police Department WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- Wappingers Falls residents are apparently satisfied with their police department. Residents voted 486-294 to keep their police department Tuesday rather than entering into a shared services agreement with the county which could've saved taxpayers more than $700,000 a year. Last November, Dutchess County Supreme Court blocked an effort by the village to disband its police force and replace it with the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, saying the village did not conduct an environmental review. The company announced the acquisition Tuesday of the 207-unit lakefront community, which features one and two-bedroom apartments. Ginsburg acquired the property from New Chalet Apartments. A lost dog was reunited with his owner in Red Hook after an overwhelming response to a Facebook post by the Red Hook Police Department.  The dog was found at 79 Hapeman Hill Rd. and the post was shared 1,100 times by 45,184 people. Assisted Living Facility Proposed In New City NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Another senior living complex is being proposed for New City. A three-story 70,000 square foot 80 unit building is being proposed on five acres near Phillips Hill Road. There will be 64 one bedroom units and 16 two bedroom units, according to documents submitted to the Clarkstown Planning Board. The project is currently being reviewed by the planning board. The Applebaum family, which is behind the proposal, is also proposing a complex for people 55 years and older on the Buckley Farms property across the street.

Briarcliff Cheerleaders Head To Nationals BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- The Briarcliff cheerleading squad is going to Disney World. The cheerleaders will be competing at the National High Scool Cheerleading Championship on Feb. 10-11 at Walt Disney World. The contest will be televised on ESPN. This is the first time Briarcliff is competing at nationals. The team qualified after competing at a regional competition in the Poconos.  The 15 cheerleaders, coached by Stephanie Georgioudakis, do a three-minute routine featuring cheers, stunting, and dancing.

Gov. Cuomo Unveils State Budget New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo unveiled his $168 billion 2018-2019 budget to lawmakers on Tuesday. Cuomo's budget includes a three-percent increase in funding for schools and a one-percent increase in funding for higher education. The budget also increases funding for capital projects by 14 percent and health care by three-percent. The budget also reduces spending on transportation, community colleges, mental hygiene and state agencies.
