Lumber From Gardiner Tree At Rockefeller Center Will Be Used Locally
GARDINER, N.Y. -- The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, an 80-year-old Norway spruce from Gardiner, will be made into lumber for projects of Habitat for Humanity, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. The report says this is the ninth consecutive year the Rockefeller Center tree will be used for that purpose. Last year's tree from Danville, Pa., is being incorporated into five homes being constructed in Philadelphia, the article says. Car Slams Into New Rochelle Store
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- A customer was injured in a store in a strip mall in New Rochelle Sunday after a sport utility vehicle crashed into the building, according to lohud.com.The noon incident occurred at Shoretown Stationery at 434 Pelham Road, says the article. The SUV that slammed into the building was a black Hyundai reportedly driven by a woman, 88, lohud.com says. The injured person was taken to the hospital for a broken ankle. Police: Woman Reportedly Stabs Man In New Rochelle Home
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- An investigation is underway by New Rochelle police into a reported stabbing early Monday morning at a home in the city, according to Westchester News 12. The incident at about 1 a.m. happened at a Union Avenue home, says the article. A woman reportedly stabbed Jesus Rodriguez Gonzalez, 30, with a knife in a possible domestic incident, according to the news report. FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Fatalities, accidents with injuries and traffic violations rose significantly over the Christmas holiday compared to last year, with a higher traffic volume, according to the Connecticut State Police.A total of five deaths were reported on Connecticut roadways, an increase from only one last year during the same time period. Update, 11 a.m. The missing person alert issued for a 65-year-old man from Newburgh by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services has been canceled. New Fairfield High Principal Retiring After 22 Years On The Job
NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- After a 22-year run at New Fairfield High School, principal Mariana Coelho will retire at the end of the school year, The News-Times said. Coelho gave a "heartfelt speech" at a school board meeting, where she got a standing ovation, according to the article. RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- Parents are disappointed terrorism woes caused the school administration to cancel trips abroad, reported The Ridgefield Press. According to the report, German and Chinese exchange trips for students of world language at Ridgefield High School were canceled due to concerns about terrorism. the story said. Mount Vernon Man Indicted After Crash That Killed Female Passenger
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A Mount Vernon man was arraigned in district court Wednesday after receiving a seven-count indictment stemming from a Sept. 7 deadly crash on the Cross County Parkway in Yonkers that killed his passenger in which he allegedly was driving drunk, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFirore said. National Prices Of Gas Drops Below $2 A Gallon
Gasoline prices have slipped to less than $2 a gallon, the first time they have been that low since March 25, 2009, according to the Lewisboro Ledger. In comparison to the previous year, today's prices are 41 cents lower, the article said. A big "oil glut," with more than needed supplies all over the world to match the current demand, less driving in winter and crude oil prices down to $35 to $40 a barrel on average are what is driving prices lower, according to the report.
