Stamford's Beacon School Launches Global Learning Program
STAMFORD, Conn. -- Technology is giving kids who want to make a difference in the world a new way to do it, said Tucker Paine, a director of The Beacon School in Stamford.
According to Paine, the independent school has been chosen as a partner for Level Up Village, an innovative program based in Old Greenwich that pairs students here with students in developing countries.
Together, with the help of cutting-edge technology, such as guided video messaging, the students tackle real-life problem solving on a global scale, he said.

'In My Shoes:' Actors Share Stories Of Fate, Freedom At Danbury's WestConn
DANBURY, Conn. -- “In My Shoes,” a provocative look at the personal stories of women who have been in prison, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.
“In My Shoes” explores choices, the twists of fate that lead to prison, and the journey back to freedom through movement, spoken word, and song.
Presented by the Judy Dworin Performance Project, it is told with compassion and clarity by six women who have re-entered Connecticut communities from York Correctional Institution.

Joan Marie Magratten, 79, Lifelong Yonkers Resident
YONKERS, N.Y. – Joan Marie Magratten, a lifelong resident of Yonkers, died Oct. 12. She was 79.
Magratten was predeceased by her parents, William A. and Mary (nee Zielinski) Magratten, and her brother, William J. Magratten.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Ellen Magratten, and two nephews, Mathew and Andrew Magratten.
Her devoted cousin, Alberta Blasewitz, and a host of friends, will miss her friendship, love and kindness.
