Maria Fareri Children's Hospital Patient Wins State Honor VALHALLA, N.Y. – Sophia Mercado, a neurosurgery patient at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, was named the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Champion for New York State. Mercado, an 11-year-old girl from Walden, N.Y., will serve as an ambassador for Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, New York state and all children cared for by the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across North America. New Canaan's Campbell Named To U.S. Rowing Under-23 Team FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Two rowers from Westport and one from New Canaan were named to the United States team competing in the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Varese, Italy. Westport’s Elizabeth Youngling and Alexander Perkins were named to the team, along with New Canaan’s Andrew Campbell. Guenter Buetter of Wilton will be a coach on the team. The regatta begins July 23. Youngling, who is entering her senior year at the University of Virginia, will row on the Women’s Eight. Fairfield Sisters Face Heartfelt Connecticut Challenge After Cancer Loss FAIRFIELD, Conn. – For the Harrison sisters of Fairfield, their rides in the Connecticut Challenge will be all about family. Alexis Harrison will ride 50 miles, and Erin Harrison French will ride 25 miles in memory of their cousin, Chris Cook, who died at age 48 in April. 5 Wilton Running Club Athletes Qualify For Nationals WILTON, Conn. -- Five Wilton Running Club athletes qualified for the U.S.A. National Track and Field Championships this past weekend in the Region 1 Championships at Fitchburg, Mass. Angela Saidman led the way for Wilton with wins in the 800 and 1,500 in the 13-14-year-old age group. Ashley Nicoletti, Amanda Deenihan, Sean McHale and Jack Griffith also qualified for the national meet, which will be held in Humble, Texas, beginning July 21. Fairfield American Little League Heads For Next Round Of Playoffs FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield American Little League begins play Thursday in the Division 1 stage of the state tournament. If history is any indication, it could be the next stage of an extended summer of baseball for the young ballplayers. Fairfield American won three straight state titles from 2010 to 2012.
