Born in Newark and raised in Hudson County, Jerry DeMarco is a 38-year veteran of the news industry and a renowned breaking news reporter. He has covered local, county and state police, as well as the FBI, ATF and other federal agencies.

DeMarco joined Daily Voice in 2015 after six years running Cliffview Pilot, one of the nation's few independent breaking news sites. As an independent publisher, he helped establish Local Independent Online News, a national trade organization.

Prior to launching his own site, DeMarco served as a reporter for the Bergen Record, Stamford Advocate, Rockland Journal News, News Tribune, and Trenton Times.

DeMarco has won national recognition for his investigative work, including Clarion, Heywood Broun and Deadline Club awards. He's changed public policy and managed several major projects -- including one that helped put a corrupt public official in federal prison and another that forced a sitting New Jersey attorney general from office for her participation in a Bergen County traffic stop involving her boyfriend.

DeMarco regularly lectures at a graduate course in media relations at Fairleigh Dickinson University and previously was an adjunct professor at Lehman College in the Bronx. 

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from St. Peter's University in Jersey City.

Firefighters Douse Overnight Closter Blaze Closter firefighters doused an overnight house blaze. They were met by heavy fire coming from the attack of the 2½ -story wood-frame home on Jason Woods Road, just off Homans Avenue, shortly before 2 a.m. Monday. Mutual aid responders included firefighters from Demarest. All fire companies were released shortly after 4 a.m. No injuries were reported. Fire officials were trying to determine the cause. Birthday Bust: Passaic County Man Charged With Child Porn A Passaic County man was arrested on child porn charges on his birthday, records show. Christian Costa was taken into custody and his Bloomingdale apartment searched on Friday, June 10 -- his 29th birthday -- according to records on file in Superior Court in Paterson. He was charged with child endangerment by distributing, possessing or viewing images of underage sex abuse, as well as illegal prescription drug possession following a search of his apartment, records show. Costa was sent to the Passaic County Jail to await a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Paterson.

Two Hospitalized In Route 17 Crash Two people were hospitalized after an overnight crash on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights. The extent of their injuries couldn't immediately be determined following the collision on the northbound side outside the Shell station at Malcolm Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
